School SurveyWTS London Schools and Colleges Engagement Strategy

School ClassroomIn March 2008, the Womens Transportation Seminar London hosted a Schools Roundtable where representatives from the transport industry, schools, universities, and sector skills councils met to discuss how to make transport a job for the girls. The discussion highlighted the need to challenge the misconceptions around the industry, to better coordinate available information and existing initiatives and to market the industry in a more exciting and positive light. From these discussions, WTS London has developed an Action Plan outlining a number of strategic initiatives to improve the perception of the transport industry amongst young women and girls. The Action Plan can be viewed here.

Your chance to get involved

At WTS London, we are keen to see women enter the full range of fascinating careers in the transport sector. Our Action Plan goes some way to addressing this but we can only do so much. That is why we are partnering with the not-for-profit organisation Growing Ambitions to encourage our members, friends, supporters and sponsors to undertake career speaking. We are urging everyone to volunteer a half-an-hour of their time to talk about their job and career to young people near where they live or work.

Careers advisers are often under-resourced and need the input from the world of work. The young people they advise need information to help them make informed career choices.

Whether you are a member, sponsor, supporter or a visitor to our site, you can sign up through our volunteering portal below - it takes just a few minutes. Speak just once, or as many times as you like at a time and location that is convenient for you.

The Four Steps
