Page Title Spatial Planning and Accessibility in Developing Areas 04/11/10

04 November 2010 6pm London TBC

JeddahJoin WTS London, Space Syntax and the International Forum for Rural Transport and Development at this unique event series, titled 'Spatial Planning and Accessibility in Developing Areas'.

Sponsored by Space Syntax, this event will introduce the principles of the space syntax methodology – an innovative, evidence based
planning and design tool, showcased  by the Jeddah Unplanned Settlements case study. Learn about space syntax’s application across different scales and urban dimensions, and the social, economic and environmental benefits that can be unlocked through intelligent spatial planning.  Understand the impact of current urban planning policies within developing areas and how more informed decision making can lead to greater accessibility and the sustainable reintegration and regeneration of urban slums.

You will also hear from IFRTD, a global network working to improve policies and practices in transport planning, infrastructure, access and the provision of services to  benefit the lives of rural communities in developing countries.  Learn about the positive changes and remaining challenges within two communities following the conclusion of mobility and accessibility projects.  Understand how higher levels of decision making can influence and benefit from lessons from such projects and how IFRTD are promoting local priorities to influence policy and decision making.
